"The Secret is in the Inking" Workshop
Saturday, February 3, 2007
10am-4pm at Atlanta Printmakers Studio
$75 APS members / $85 non-members
Workshop is full
Join British printmaker Chris Pig at the Atlanta Printmakers Studio for this one-day linoleum block workshop. He will demonstrate cutting a block and the use of fine V gouges. His focus will be to guide participants through the process of printing a linocut. This may seem simplistic, says Chris, but there is always something to learn from other peoples methods, be you novice or master.
The award winning artist uses a system of primary, secondary and tertiary inking beds. Printing will be done by hand using traditional Japanese methods and also by using a press. He will also teach retouching techniques. Participants should bring their own linoleum block that is carved and ready to print.

"The Life of a Printmaker and his Influences" Lecture
Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 7:00pm
SCAD Atlanta Campus
1600 Peachtree St. NE - Printshop, Room 517
Free and open to the public.
Chris will present a talk about how art history affects a practicing artist. This lecture will be of interest to those who want to know more about Chris, his artwork and his printmaking influences, but also to all artists, not just printmakers, who want to think about their own art in relation art history and their personal influences.
I am not an art historian, I am a practicing professional printmaker, he says. Therefore my emphasis on art history in lectures has always been about its practical application rather than its context. I like to explore the lives of the artists, their day-to-day survival, their personal relationships, their political leanings and so on. The anecdotes can be quite entertaining.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
My work now vacillates between subjects that are narrative to the point of didactic, to images that are solely devoted to form, mark making and rhythm. The former are almost biblical in their preoccupation with vices and the venal side of life. The latter serve as ciphers for stillness and meditation.
