May 11- June 15 John Folsom: Caught Looking

Opening Reception: Saturday, May 11th, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

John Folsom’s new series Caught Looking marks a radical departure from his previous landscape imagery.  Building on a body of work begun in 1995, Folsom is working with found photographs to forge possible histories related to the gay experience in the 20th century.  This new work featuring mixed media screenprints, aims to broaden understanding and offer a new way to think about history, identity and representation.

John Folsom is a multimedia artist born and raised in Paducah, Kentucky and currently lives in Hapeville. His work explores the potential of photographic images through the intersection of digital media, screenprinting, and painting.  His work resides in the permanent collections of The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, Louisiana, The Gibbes Museum in Charleston, South Carolina, and Telfair Museums in Savannah, Georgia as well as many private and public collections.

September 7- October 12 The Mystery of Time and Becoming: the Prints of Krishna Reddy

Reception/ Talk / Workshop: TBA

This exceptional exhibition of color etchings explores Krishna Reddy’s quest to capture the temporal emergence of the world in which we live through printmaking. Merging a post-humanist approach to science, technology and art, Reddy’s contemplative and intersectional work is abstract and colorful with intricate physical and implied texture.

Born in India, Krishna Reddy worked internationally and was famous for the invention of color viscosity etching. He belonged to and was the Director of the renowned printmaking studio Atelier 17 in Paris, started by Stanley William Hayter and Professor Emeritus at N.Y.U. His work is included in many important collections around the world including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and a 1981 retrospective at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.

This rare opportunity to see a focused body of Reddy’s prints is curated from the collection of Georgia Tech sociology Professor Amit Prasad.

December 1 - 31 Paths – Trayectos: Print Exchange Portfolio

Reception: December 1st, 2 - 5pm (Holiday Open House)

APS’s 7th Print Exchange “Paths - Trayectos” is in collaboration with Pacarina Grabado in Quito, Ecuador.  50 artists (25 from each studio) were asked to reflect on the idea of “path” and its many interpretations: life paths, geographical paths, spiritual paths, migratory routes, and celestial trajectories.  Paths take us from where we are to somewhere new. The paths we take in life are varied, blazed by convenience, expectation, need, or desire. Some paths are well-planned, others spontaneous.  All of the work in this exhibition will take the viewer on a new visual journey!
