ATLANTA PRINTMAKERS STUDIO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Atlanta Printmakers Studio (APS) is searching for a new leader to advance and develop the organization into its next phase. As the Executive Director of Atlanta Printmakers Studio, you are a strong advocate of the organization, staff, and printmaking community. You uphold APS’ mission of providing printmaking facilities and services for artists who need a place to create or exhibit their original artwork, and of offering education in printmaking practices by uniting professional artists with a diverse community of learners. APS is committed to being an approachable and affordable print studio, a space where professional printmakers can meet aspiring students and a space that encourages collaboration and the sharing of ideas. As APS enters its twentieth year, you will be uniquely positioned to guide the organization in new directions, ushering in new growth and building upon its legacy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform effectively in this position, the individual should demonstrate the following competencies. These core competencies represent the effective administration of APS and its programs fulfilling APS’s mission.
COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
Serve as a leader in representing the organization externally; serve as brand ambassador and lead as the external spokesperson to stakeholders including members, community partners, visitors, teaching artists, students, and funders.
Communicate effectively with multiple audiences using a variety of formats.
Support and cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the board of directors and board of advisors to ensure open communication about the progress of organizational goals and that the budget, staff, and priorities are aligned with the organization’s mission.
Plan and provide oversight of ongoing communications, reports, printed and digital communications, newsletters, annual reports, and press releases
STRATEGIC PLANNING
Work closely with staff and the board to achieve organization-wide development of short and long-term strategies for achieving and expanding goals shaping the strategic vision for APS’ future.
Develop and execute programmatic, organizational, and financial plans with the board and staff.
Assess outcomes and impact and make improvements or changes where necessary.
Work with the board to identify and recruit potential board members to diversify and expand APS’ outreach.
FINANCES
Develop annual and long-term financial objectives, including a balanced operating budget with the treasurer.
Oversee basic bookkeeping functions, including bank deposits, membership dues, etc per generally accepted accounting principles, and accounts payable/receivable.
Point person with treasurer and accountant to oversee payroll, taxes, and monthly accounting. Works with the treasurer on developing annual budget projections.
GRANTS
Facilitate grant writing and oversee contract management, coordinating with legal advisors when necessary to finalize agreement terms, monitoring the progress of agreements, and maintaining agreement documentation to ensure fulfillment of agreement terms, including receipt and expenditure of funds.
HUMAN RESOURCES
Handle all aspects of human resource management of potential employees, instructors, studio monitors, and interns including but not limited to developing position descriptions and implementing board-approved employee policies including evaluations.
Provide creative and inspirational direction to all employees to sustain the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization.
Work closely with coordinators to ensure they are provided with appropriate support systems and responsive, quality service in the areas of project supplies, project accounting, project staffing, purchasing, and related administrative functions.
STUDIO OPERATIONS
Maintain effective internal control systems to account for studio operations.
Manages all aspects of studio maintenance including but not limited to cleanliness, efficiency, safety, repairs, inventory, and purchase of supplies.
Review and up-keep a comprehensive Studio Maintenance & Procedures Handbook, which serves as a reference document for all studio monitors and renters.
Manage all facets of artist renters including orientation, rental fees, communications, and policy compliance.
EDUCATION
Supervises Program Manager who is responsible for
developing and maintaining programming for classes, workshops, outreach, and events.
keeping class rosters, class/workshop registrations
communicating with students and instructors
negotiating instructor agreement terms, supervising and evaluating instructors
keeping class supplies stocked and troubleshooting studio equipment as needed
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Understands the technical aspects of managing a nonprofit organization.
Clearly understands the mission of the organization and continuously works to promote APS and achieve its goals.
Bachelor’s degree in printmaking or equivalent proven printmaking experience.
Familiarity with the landscape of arts and printmaking.
Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, processes, and equipment used in printmaking.
Must possess skills, knowledge, and qualities which, may result from formal education or at least three years of experience in business, non-profit operational and financial management, or related areas.
A minimum of three years of leadership experience.
Ability to work a flexible schedule being available and responsive to issues and concerns as they arise. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary.
Must be able to travel to attend conferences, training, and other events as required to acquire and maintain proficiency in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.
The position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Arts Administration, Studio Arts, or Art History. Comparable experience in grassroots organizing or community building will also be considered.
Connection to printmaking, either as a printmaker or someone knowledgeable about printmaking; can speak of its historical and contemporary impact.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is a medium-sized, busy studio located in Hapeville, Georgia.
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

POSITION AND COMPENSATION DETAILS
Starting salary is $45,000 - $50,000 based on experience.
Healthcare allowance: an additional sum of $1,200 per year will be added to the base salary.
40 hours per week with some additional hours on weekends and evenings required. Occasional evening and weekend events will require attendance.
Employee benefits include 2 weeks of paid vacation, 1 week of paid sick time, and these paid holidays – New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
